The Avengers was pretty awesome! I'm easily impressed.Barbara Elsborghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15825994197656747262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808733415551134993.post-75256343430007216602012-06-23T09:18:54.656-06:002012-06-23T09:18:54.656-06:00Wonderful post, Donna!

Other than the first two, note the time lag between those four. It hit me that a great SR/R movie is like a having a Triple Crown winner. The visuals, storyline and some sort of unknown magic has to be there to pull it off.

Missing from the list? An overlooked sequel far superior to its "acid trip visual" original--2010: Odyssey II. Breathtaking visuals, solid storyline and science, and great characters with political conflicts and realistic multi-national crew dynamics. Sadly, it's often overlooked on the list of "greats."L. A. But I think modern film-makers are relying too much on the fact that they can do pretty much any effect with a computer and it will look stunning, that they're forgetting about the story.
I think I'd have to add Chronicles of Riddick and maybe Galaxy Quest to those. More recent ones than some on your list, but certainly not current.Pippa Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15146591827060731958noreply@blogger.com
