I may hate it, but someone else will drink it up like nobody's business. Such is how the world goes, I guess.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17446862423234144625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808733415551134993.post-88652588732843236122012-02-12T03:06:59.376-07:002012-02-12T03:06:59.376-07:00I'm afraid I've been guilty of the late ap...I'm afraid I've been guilty of the late appearance of the villain and the lack of romantic tension, but hopefully I'll do better in the future. :-/Pippa Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15146591827060731958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808733415551134993.post-48196481615308206892012-02-11T08:13:19.644-07:002012-02-11T08:13:19.644-07:00EXCELLENT article, Donna. (I think we should have a private aside and compare notes.)

There are a few great SFR authors that are/were automatic buys for me--one being Linnea Sinclair--but most of them are no longer writing SFR. For a long time I was left scratching my head. Where is all the compelling SFR with fresh new ideas (not retreads), fantastic conflict and a makes-me-want-to-break-out-in-song grand finale?

Then I realized that it isn't JUST SFR...it's every genre. Where are all the great books, period? It's so tough to get a manuscript accepted and published these days, it seems those that make it through this grueling gauntlet should be absolute perfection.

But so often, it's just not so.

I'm really searching for the next SFR I can champion and I haven't found it yet, but to borrow your phrase, some have "Missed it by thaaaaat much." I'm scouring the universe for a story that propels my imagination into hyperdrive and takes my breath away. (Where is it?)

And Barbara...you are, of course, one of my automatic buy authors, but you really need to write another SFR! :)L. A. I wonder if I'm getting more picky the older I get, and the more I write. I know my books aren't perfect but there are some out there with horrible faults and I just wonder how they got through the submission and editing process. Of course, somewhere, someone is probably saying that about one of mine. LOL
I know we can't please everyone but I agree there are certain fundamentals of writing that can't be ignored.
I agree too that maybe sci fi rom is being overlooked because it's lumped with vamps and weres etc. Not sure there is yet enough writers of the genre to make a whole new category. But maybe I'm wrong.Barbara Elsborghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15825994197656747262noreply@blogger.com
