Too far fetched. Sounds like he was right. I'll still probably check it out though.KM Fawcetthttp://www.kmfawcett.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808733415551134993.post-79166816622394941872021-05-01T06:49:53.150-06:002021-05-01T06:49:53.150-06:00Ha, ha! Anyway, good riddance to those guys and their ideas about “girls” on the frontier of space and SF. And, yes, BACK UP, BACK UP, BACK UP!Donna S. I must have read it about the same time you did. I've thought about this dilemma--and the final outcome--often over the years and it is a fascinating if emotionally grueling scenario to ponder.

I think this might be worth watching, though I agree not having redundant systems on a spacecraft is pretty much out in left field. Usually even the redundant systems have backup systems. I also hope they have a plausible explanation for why the needed parts couldn't be printed.

You said: "But it was the Fifties and the assumptions about women were appalling. Miller has some terrific things to say about those assumptions in her article" (I need to click over and read that now.) As a teenager I was a member of the Science Fiction Book Club, and yes, the thinking toward females in the genre back in the "golden age" often made me squirm. All I can say is some of those authors are very fortunate they didn't live in the age of social media. Enough said. LOL
L. A.
