Snippet: Rescuing Romila

 

Rescuing Romila is the second Morgan's Misfits adventure. As usual with my books, it mixes mystery, history, and romance, but it adds conflict between the Misfits themselves. Although the story starts on Shar Burk space station, the action takes us to a cold, snowy planet, and then elsewhere in space.

In this scene from the cold, snowy planet, Toreni has been taken up into the mountains to meet Gita, a local wise woman, while Romila and Sunil, who is an archaeologist, go off together. After admiring Gita's store of herbs, ointments, and beautiful glassware, Toreni starts asking questions.

Toreni put the delicate flute back. "Gita, I got the idea you're not too happy about young Sunil?"

Gita snorted. "He disturbs the past. The past should be left."

"What? In his dig?"

Gita's face screwed up. "He thinks this is where he will find things from early settlers, people who were here before the big freeze."

"Will he?"

"Oh yes. But the old timers will not like it. They are at peace here. If he delves too deep he will disturb their rest."

A shiver went down Toreni's spine. "And he hasn't delved deep enough?"

Gita shook her head. "I know. I have seen." She gazed at the wall, her physical presence here, but her spirit elsewhere. "The mountain holds many secrets. I do not disturb them. But him? He will not listen to me, this boy." She almost spat the last sentence.

 

The Misfits are off on another planet-hopping adventure.

When Jirra and Toreni rescue Romila from a raid on her antiques business the Misfits start off on a mission to uncover a drug-smuggling operation. A new, very potent drug is on the market, hidden in statues of ice warriors carved on a remote world.

But all’s not well within the team. Toreni and Chet have fallen out, Toreni has received an offer that might be too good to refuse, and Jirra has doubts about her future.  When the drug-smuggling operation morphs into something even more dangerous, the Misfits must resolve their differences. If they don’t act together, and quickly, many lives will be at risk. Including their own.

Action and adventure, with a little bit of romance.
