Now Reading...

GAMES OF COMMAND
by Linnea Sinclair
Science Fiction Romance
Bantam Books

Initial Comments:

Great hook.
Gut-wrenching conflicts.
Compelling characters.
Fascinating sci-fi universe.

Captain Tasha Sebastian is suspicious of Admiral Branden Kel-Paten's nonnegotiable request that she serve on his flagship as first officer. She fears what he really wants is her head on a platter. She and the biocybe admiral are old adversaries who have faced-off countless times. But an uneasy alliance between her resource-rich United Coalition and his technologically-superior Triad has changed the rules. She has no idea that his rules changed long ago.

Look for a full review in early July.

  1. This is an awesome read. You're gonna love it! It's also highly educational for those of us who are trying to figure out how to put together complicated stories in a clear way.

  3. Yep, I guess maybe you did know Laurie was talking about GAMES!

Isn't it amazing when we do things we don't mean to when putting a story together? Jacqueline Lichtenberg's advice was fabulous and I realized I was already doing much of it without meaning to. Now, I'm structuring on purpose, thanks to her, and it's going sooo much easier. It was from dissecting GAMES (and STAR KING by Susan Grant) that I finally started getting a handle on how to put a chapter together.

  4. Thanks for your comments, Kimber and Linnea. Oh, you can bet I've been taking a close look at how the plot on GAMES OF COMMAND is woven together.

Branden Kel-Paten and my MC, Drea Mennelsohn, could have quite a chat about the social effects of being, shall we say, "uniquely gifted" individuals. ;)

  5. Oh, I love Branden. Excluding my own characters, he's one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I just wanted to make him hot cocoa with marshmellows in it and chocolate chip cookies every time I picked up the book to read.

  6. Oh yes, I was very taken with Branden Kel-Paten, after the initial thaw.

Hmmm...making him hot cocoa and cookies never crossed my mind.

  7. Well...yanno, I used to be a nanny and...now I'm a mommy. Hot cocoa and cookies is the ultimate compliment coming from me! I think maybe I'll start rating my reviews this way. GAMES OF COMMAND - A Full Mug of Cocoa and Five Cookies book by Linnea Sinclair.

Nah, the other books might feel bad if they don't get as many cookies.
