Welcome back to Six Sentence Sunday.  :)  Thanks for stopping by again this week.

If you're new to Six Sentence Sunday, check out all the great excerpts from talented authors by clicking the link.

This week, I have more from my Golden Heart® finalist, The Outer Planets.  Lissa is just recovering from hypersleep on approach to Jupiter when she has second thoughts about the choices that led her here.  ("Bobby" is her late ex, Brigadier General Robert Bradley, for whom the ship was re-named.)

___________________________

God, what was she doing way out here, so far from home?

What had she been thinking?

She’d made her decision to join the mission—correction: rammed her decision down their throats—only five weeks before she’d arrived by shuttle. But instead of a brilliant solution, it now seemed another monumental mistake. In her case, knowledge wasn’t power, it was a death sentence. She knew secrets about Bobby that she wished with all her heart she’d never learned.

Welcome back to Six Sentence Sunday.  I appreciate everyone who stops by each week to read my excerpts.  If you're just visiting for the first time, be sure to check out all the other great Six Sentence Sunday excerpt from very talented writers by clicking the link.

This scene takes place just as Lissa and Mitch have been revived from hypersleep.  They share a cubicle in the sleeper bays while awaiting the medical staff to assist them with recovery when Lissa becomes aware that Mitch is staring.
___________________________

She sensed Mitch’s eyes moving over her body. The sleeper outfit covered her breasts and hips, but left her midriff and long legs exposed, offering little more coverage than a bikini. She gave him a nervous glance and he averted his gaze.

Busted.

But it wasn’t like she hadn’t gotten an eyeful of his toned chest and other interesting landmarks before she’d gone into her sleeper.  She just wasn’t sure if his interest was purely physical or he suspected something.

Six Sentence Sunday

I had a HUGE suprise on Friday. Two of them actually. I'm a double Golden Heart finalist! One of my GH hopefuls is The Outer Planets, so I'm back this week with another excerpt from the manusccript.

In this scene, Lissa is just being rendered into hypersleep by medical staff for the year-long voyage to Jupiter, when...
________________________________

When Lissa tried to answer, she found her mind no longer online with her mouth. She registered movement from the corner of her eye—the transparent lid of the unit retracting over her. Too late, she realized how easily a sleeper could be sabotaged. She’d made it too easy for her enemies. Trapped here, onboard a vessel with a sleeping crew, she’d be an easy target for elimination. Murder by hypersleep.

SET-UP:  MEET ELENA.

Lissa is being escorted to a hypersleep unit by med tech Elena Stevens, where she'll spend a year in hypersleep for the year-long journey to Jupiter. She discovers Mitch is in the next unit, already asleep.

Lissa's gaze moved down to the lieutenant's sculpture-worthy shoulders and tanned pecs. Polycon dog tags rested in the deep hollow of his breastbone. A thin blue band affixed across his chest monitored pulse and respiration. Sensors dotted the relaxed six-pack on his lower abdomen. Lissa’s attention swept lower before she realized her eyes were going AWOL.

“Caught ya starin’,” the med-tech teased.

Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome back!  If you're here for the first time, be sure to check out all the other Six Sentence Sunday excerpts from a variety of very talented authors.

This week's segment needs a set up.

This a continuation of the trans-level lift scene between Mitch and Tija (with a capital Trouble).  Tija doesn't want what happened in Houston to stay in Houston. When Mitch doesn't respond as she hopes, she presses the issue, and the lift doors open to leave Mitch looking like the sexual aggressor to a very disapproving commanding officer.
_____________________________________________

“A word in private, Lieutenant,” the captain growled.

Mitch walked off the unit without looking at Tija. He was starting to think of her as his own personal Calamity Jane. Every time she was near him, questionable things happened. Sexual things happened. Usually through no fault of his own--usually.

More Tija Trouble

“Is there something wrong, Mitch?”

She stared, her eyes misting and her lip quivering like she was about to cry.  It was the greatest weapon of manipulation in her arsenal.

He fought to regain control and spoke in a low, calm voice, “I’d really appreciate it if you would keep what happened between us private.”

“I am sorry.” She leaned in and captured his hand, drawing it to her breast. “Come to my quarters so we can talk.”

More from The Outer Planets...

There's a new twist in the Lissa and Mitch dilemma set up in earlier posts.  She's...
________________________________

Trouble With a Capital Tija

Mitch stepped on to the trans-level lift, or TLL in crew shorthand, and turned to speak his destination to the mic. Before he could utter a word, Tija slipped through the entrance, punched the Close Seal button and pirouhetted to face him.

“Hi,” she said, her dark eyes bright.

He straightened and uttered a quiet, “Hi.”

“You are well?”

“Just fine, and you?” He kept his tone low, formal and—he hoped—devoid of any hint of interest. Not that her sexier-than-hell Chilean accent was easy to ignore. But he was still beating himself up over that one heaven-and-hell night in Houston.

Six Sentence Sunday

Back for another week of Six Sentence Sunday.  Be sure to click on the link to read all the other great six sentence snippets available this week.

If you'd like to read my previous Six Sentence Sunday posts leading up to this one, click here.

For this week's installment of Six Sentence Sunday, I'm posting another excerpt from my Near Future SFR, The Outer Planets.  In previous weeks, we met the heroine, Lissa Bruce and got a glimpse into her thoughts as she joined the Bradley mission and came face-to-face with the man she thought she'd left behind on Earth.  With her identity and appearance changed, Mitch doesn't recognize her as the woman he loves--Jenae Bradley.

This week, we see things from Mitch's POV for the first time.
____________________________________________________

There’s something about her…

Mitch stared down at his deck boots and puzzled over the new arrival as the lift carried him back to main deck. He’d never had a woman take such an instant dislike to him. Her body language said it all -- averted eyes, a hesitation to shake his hand, her strained words.

Still.

There was that something.

An intangible feeling that resonated on some deep level. Why?

Sunday Six Sentences

Back again for another Sunday Six.  Be sure to check out all the links to excerpts posted by a variety of talented writers on the Six Sentence Sunday central hub, here

Today's excerpt from The Outer Planets puts quite a spin on Lissa's thoughts posted last week.

_______________________

Lissa broke eye contact and looked at the officer standing a stride off the captain’s left elbow. She expected Commander Kelso, the ship’s Executive Officer to be tailing the captain, or maybe the Chief of Boat—COB Browne, but…

Lissa’s heart stuttered and the breath lodged in her throat.

Oh my God.

Mitch.

Every muscle in her body tightened and her heart pounded. What in the hell was he doing here? Did he recognize her?

She averted her eyes to the captain, regrouping.

"May I introduce First Lieutenant Mitchell Coe," Daniel said, “My new aide de camp.”

Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome! Glad you stopped by my Six Sentence Sunday snippet #3. Be sure to click the link to read excerpts from all the other talented writers. Whether they incite a tease, a sigh, or a gasp, the offerings are truly stellar.

More From The Outer Planets

Two weeks ago, you met the heroine, Lissa Bruce, and her first thoughts on seeing the ship that would be her home for the next several years.  "Hello, bitch."

Last week, you were introduced to the stern and domineering Captain Daniel Storing as Lissa took her first hesitant step onto the deck of the planetary research vessel, NSS Robert Bradley.

But...

What has Lissa left behind?

___________________________________________

And so very far away from Mitch.

She closed her eyes against the explosion of regret and longing his memory brought. Had she done the right thing by not contacting him, not dragging him into the maelstrom her life had become since Bobby’s death? Her misplaced loyalty had kept them apart before. Now it would be time itself that separated them--five long years--and distance--billions of miles.

I should have pinged him.

Six Sentence Sunday

Another week has gone by and it's time again for Six Sentence Sunday.

This week I'm posting a second excerpt from Chapter 1 of my Science Fiction Romance WIP, The Outer Planets.  (Just to clarify, this is not the hero that the heroine meets, but he is a major player in the story.)  I even managed to find a pic that somewhat goes with the blurb.  Not what I was picturing, but I couldn't seem to find what I was looking for on the internet.

Don't miss all the great Six Sentence posts from participating authors by clicking the link above.

Thanks for visiting!  :)
__________________________

Lissa willed her legs forward, stepping onto the deck of Captain Daniel Storing’s ship. Behind her the hatch to the docking bay closed with a clack, followed by a low rumble as the air lock depressurized.

Escape route sealed. Point of no return.

She looked into the commanding blue eyes of the man before her. The eyes of Zeus, an awe-stricken friend had once described them. He studied her, neither relief nor anger evident in his gaze, his face molded into its usual professional scowl.

Six Sentence Sunday Excerpt

Welcome!  I heard about the Six Sentence Sunday writing exercise--brainchild of Sara Brookes--via an article posted by Jessica Subject on the SFR Brigade. It sounds like such a fun and positive experience!

After scanning my work for a first excerpt to post, I decided to start at the beginning (harsh language and all) of my current WIP, The Outer Planets. Thanks for stopping by. :)

“Hello, bitch,” Lissa Bruce whispered.

Outside the portal, a leviathan floated in all her gloating glory. Running lights on full, insignias glowing, silver carbon skin stretched tight over her multi-deck carcass. Damned ship had been nothing but heartache. The research vessel too tough to die.
